New space

We are breathing energy into our new space and it is feeling more and more alive and vibrant!

We are offering classes again in August and September. It sure will feel good to have a little more elbow room!

Magical Felted Playmats!

Brandy has been felting some incredible landscapes with her skilled hands.  They are entirely made of wool and invite old and young alike to wonder and admire.

The tree is made with wire and covered with wool. Small details are easily added with a felting needle.

 

The roof of the cute mushroom house comes off to set up home for a small dweller or two.

Making beautiful star lanterns

Here is a link for instructions to make these lovely star lanterns. We paint a sheet of watercolor paper with Stockmar carmine and lemon yellow, let it dry, oil it with a cloth(I have used olive oil, which smells a little off the next year but I freshened it up with some essential oils)  so it becomes transparent and then fold it. The link is in German but the instructions are non-verbal. Makes a nice gift and kids as young as 8-9 can fold them with help, the younger ones can help paint and oil. You can store them flat and reuse next year!

 

Cut a square piece from a rectangular watercolour sheet. I make smaller "lanterns" with the cut-offs and stick them on mini light chains.

Dying for Sockyarn

There are so many amazing sockyarns to choose from!! And there's always more....

These ones are a Briggs and Little sock yarn, Durasport, that come in a lovely natural white. I dyed these for a customer request. They were fun to create, so don't be surprised to see more on the shelves next time you come by......

Hallowe'en Crafting!

Crafting for Hallowe'en is so much fun! The possibilities are rich during this time when the veils are thinning. These needle felted witches and cats are the latest addition at Maplerose. Wet felted pumpkins, coming up!

Stitching Time

Never a dull moment at Maplerose.... These camels are a recent creation, by special request from one of our customers in Toronto. Pleasing to make, working with the 100% Wool Felt, and quiet, rhythmic, and neat stitches meet my need for order and peace.

These little mushrooms were easy to make with Stockmar Modelling beeswax. To us the wax, warm it in your hands or next to a warm place until soft. Then shape into little stems and caps for the toadstools. In Waldorf schools the warm wax is given to young children at story time as it helps calm them when the hands are occupied. It smells of beeswax and is a real pleasure to work with. Older children can form more intricate designs. As the wax cools it hardens and can be left that way or re-used.
